Folded Paper Brooch
Enamel on copper set in a sterling silver bezel, with a copper backing. Set on top of a vintage Westcott ruler with sterling silver rings and gold foil.
This piece is part of a series of ongoing work entitled Bored in Class. As a former elementary student, I remember only the times in class were we got to draw, paint or create something with my hands. I love bringing my childhood memories of being bored in class into my art. As a former art teacher, and someone who loves schools, I think back at my memories of being in school and really feel bad for my teachers who tried to reach me. I was in a constant state of daydreams, doodles and paper airplanes.
Currently, my children are in school and I feel for them with every test, homework, and struggle paying attention they may have. Luckily, my kids have been blessed with the best teachers!
This brooch is a blank piece of paper, because when it was time to work, I often felt so much anxiety around the task that I just could do it.
I hope there is someone out there who may understand this, and love this piece as much as I do.
